A view towards the bow of RV Melville from the Crows Nest. You can see how calm the ocean is. Even though it is calm, the ship is still rolling gently in the long, broad swells. At the top of the photo, the sea surface looks tilted -- it isn’t, it is the ship rolling! Take a protractor and measure the angle between the horizon and a horizontal line across the top of the photo -- that will tell you how much the ship is rolling.
