This shows a cross section of a hydrothermal plume above the eastern wall of the rift valley near 24°S on the Central Indian Ridge. The vertical axis represents water depth and the horizontal axis shows the distance across the ridge during a Tow-Yo. The red/yellow area shows the region with the greatest concentration of particles in the water. This is one of the signs of a hydrothermal plume.
