Geochemist Susan Humphris and Chemist Darryl Green remove the �pinger� from the wire after completing the rock dredge is complete. The �pinger� is placed above the rock dredge. It simultaneously bounces a sound signal off the sea floor and directly back to the ship. That helps scientists determine the location of the rock dredge above the seafloor.
